James Logan, a Quaker, was the fourteenth mayor of Philadelphia and secretary to Pennsylvania’s founder, William Penn.

With Penn’s sons, James Logan was the mastermind behind the Walking Purchase, which stole nearly one million acres of Indigenous land in 1737. 

You can still visit his house, Stenton, where he actually died, located in Germantown.
