Volunteer

Through meaningful and engaging educational programming, Arch Street Meeting House volunteers contribute their time, energy, and ideas to make Quaker history accessible, understanding, and rewarding. Our volunteers participate in special events, property maintenance, community projects, and the day-to-day interpretation of the building to the general public. Being a practicing Quaker is not a requirement, but enthusiasm is a must!

Arch Street Meeting House is seeking new Volunteers to join our team of dedicated Volunteers and staff. Our Volunteers are vital to our day-to-day operations, facilitating guests’ movement through the main floor of the building. As Volunteers guide visitors through the rooms, they answer questions and provide relevant information that supplements the signage & history of the space. Traditional Volunteer shifts are 3 hours long, although Volunteers are additionally asked to donate their time during large fundraising events and occasional smaller programming. ASMH staff facilitate annual training and supply relevant materials for study in advance.

ASMH is open to the public from early March until just before the Christmas holiday. Operating days are Thursdays through Sundays, expanding to include Wednesdays & holidays in the summer months. Volunteers are expected to commit to at least two shifts a month; one on a weekday & one on a weekend. Being a Quaker is not a requirement, but enthusiasm is a must!

By donating your time as an Active Volunteer, you receive:

  • Use of the parking lot adjoining ASMH

  • Monthly informal seminars developed by the Volunteers

  • One yearly outing facilitated by ASMH staff

  • Opportunities for expanding your skills and responsibilities at ASMH

  • Complimentary admission to ASMH events

All Volunteers must be 18 years of age and are required to obtain traditional Pennsylvania clearances. ASMH is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from all walks of life.
